Workshops

Mental Refuge offers free workshops to organizations that serve refugees.

If you are interested in hosting a workshop at your clinic/social service, please email admin@mentalrefuge.ca.

We offer the following workshops.  The content is sampled from the community wellness groups, which offer a more detailed exploration of the subjects.

  • Unpacking ‘Mental Health’

Dissecting the premises that underpin dominant ‘mental health’ knowledge, to develop and work towards a wellness that is individualized to us.

  • Self-Care for the Self-Sustaining

Discussing strategies related to ‘self-care’ – that is, practices that nourish our physical, psychological, social/communal, creative, spiritual and intellectual selves – for those who are constrained in terms of time, energy, space or money.

  • The Joy of Living on the Margins

Discussing the unique strengths and positive experiences that emerge from injustice, stress and trauma.

  • What it Means to be Me

Discussing the benefits and disadvantages of our identity labels, and how to make these labels work towards actualizing our ideal self.

  • Loving our Children while Loving Ourselves

Discussing the challenges of the transition to parenthood and strategies for incorporating wellness into a lifestyle of new routines, constraints and demands.

  • While in Waiting

Discussing concepts and strategies for wellness in the context of a refugee claim or another period of transitional uncertainty.
